I
am passionate about business and brands. My professional life has
been spent making businesses work much better - from helping them
gain more business or listening to customer needs and translating
that into better products, to communicating with employees in a
far more vital and engaging way. I believe that companies should
have strong, identifiable brands that are nurtured and promoted
- internally and externally - to the clear benefit of the business.

Marketing
consultancy

My
career started in ICI Paints where I was a marketing manager on
the Dulux brand. I worked closely with all internal functions as
well as externally with designers, advertising agencies and PR consultancies.
At the same time, and independently, I was writing about marketing
issues for Marketing Week. After several years I left to set up
my own business as a marketing consultant, journalist and copywriter.
I
am experienced in marketing activities on both sides of the fence
- as a client or consultant. This includes developing business objectives
and strategies; commissioning or implementing qualitative market
research and public relations; briefing advertising agencies and
design consultancies; and managing projects through to implementation.
Lewis
Moberly

| I
have worked with the internationally acclaimed designers Lewis
Moberly for over a decade. I’ve assisted them on a wide
variety of issues covering everything from: long term strategy
development; helping create new, branded services; pitching
for and winning new business; tracking the commercial effectiveness
of Lewis Moberly's work for clients; carrying out qualitative
market research with clients; managing PR; writing speeches
for Mary Lewis; and writing numerous award winning entries
for the Design Effectiveness Awards, the Marketing Design
Awards and the Gramia Awards.

ICI
Engineering

|
This
was a rewarding project as it involved a client with a significant
problem, the chance to explore the issues and then produce the
solution.
ICI
Engineering was failing to attract the calibre and quantity
of graduates it required. I commissioned qualitative market
research at several universities to assess the scope of the
problem and to provide insights about how it could be solved.
Ultimately I helped ICI Engineering create its own corporate
identity with three recruitment brochures targeting specialist
areas of engineering. The scope of my work included: briefing
designers and photographers, carrying out interviews, writing
and editing copy and managing production through to print
and delivery.
The
results were excellent. The company received a high number
of applications from very able candidates, allowing it to
fulfil all its recruitment targets.
